Recently Savannah came home from visiting friends and questioned me about whether or not I approved of a song she had heard. While working in the mental health field several years ago, God showed me firsthand what a powerful influence music has over our minds and hearts, so I am extremely cautious about what I allow into the “ear gate” of her mind. (and mine!) I also want to raise a responsible young woman who can discern the voice of the Holy Spirit even when I am not around, so we looked at the lyrics together and I walked her through a process of discerning for herself whether or not this is a song that she should listen to. She had already admitted that she had a “strange feeling inside” when she listened to the song, and after discussing the lyrics together, we realized the song was mostly about addiction, revenge, destruction and even death. Since she had recently helped me to draft her own personal mission statement, “to defend, uphold and validate LIFE”, she was able to decide on her own that the song was the exact opposite of everything she stood for and not something she should listen to and meditate on. When we have a vision for our lives and walk with a sense of mission and purpose, it is easier to restrain our passions and resist temptation. Once when my four year-old nephew was staying with us, he did not want to help pick up the toys they’d been playing with. Capitalizing on his expressed desire to become a fireman when he grows up, I simply “mused aloud” how important it must be for real firemen to have everything in order “in case they are called out to fight a fire or save a life.” Within minutes I had a spotless room and a beaming young “fireman in training”. (Wink) God knew it was important to give Abraham a vision of his “future descendents” by having him look up from his circumstances at the stars in the sky. Recently I took Savannah and Jaden to see 4,000 white crosses near Calvary Boys Ranch in Eufaula that represent a visual picture of the 4,000 babies that are aborted in the U.S. every day. The girls stood speechless as the reality hit them that so many lives are being lost and that their simple prayer “Jesus, I plead Your blood over my sins and the sins of my nation. God end abortion and send revival to America” really does matter. We prayed the prayer again and renewed our commitment to take a stand for life and to continue praying for the ending of abortion. What’s your vision? Do you know your personal mission? I am praying today for God to bring revelation and re-awaken vision in you and your family!
The Power of a Focused Life
Jesus stated His mission in John 10:10 when He said “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” In every decision He made, such as whether or not to stone the woman caught in adultery or heal the man’s deformed hand on the Sabbath, He stayed true to His mission statement. Do you know your personal mission statement and are you walking in the fullness of that purpose? Join us Saturday, January 12th from 9 am to 4 pm at RHOP for a seminar titled “The Power of a Focused Life”. Participants will analyze current priorities, identify ways to put “first things first” and achieve inner peace in their every day life. You will also walk through the step-by-step process of writing a mission statement for your life, work and/or ministry. The cost for the conference is a $25 – 50 donation to RHOP and will include a one-hour break for lunch (lunch not provided). To register for this conference or to invite us to teach this conference at your church or group, please email me at: email@example.com. Remnant House of Prayer is located at 13773 S. Hwy 51 in Coweta, OK in Oak Grove Shopping Center behind Mazzio’s.
We have some urgent ministry needs for some upcoming events. Please prayerfully consider helping us meet these needs as we seek to establish night and day worship and prayer in Coweta. We need a Sans Amp Bass Driver for an upcoming Harp & Bowl Training that will begin on Monday, January 14th. Cost for this device is $200. We also need to have a piano tuned that will cost $75, and we have recently had a monitor donated but will need $150 for cables and mounting expenses. If you are able to meet any or all of these needs or donate toward one of them, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can donate online through PayPal or on your smartphone by clicking on “make a donation.” Or you can mail a donation to: Remnant House of Prayer, P.O. Box 374, Coweta, OK, 74429. Please feel free to forward a link to this newsletter for anyone you know who might be interested in the Focused Life Conference, Harp & Bowl Training or partnering with us to establish night and day worship and prayer.
